TOWELS AND WINDOWS

The biggest problems in cleaning windows is lint and streaks-smears. To reduce lint follow these guidelines:

1). Avoid bleach. Bleach breaks down the cotton fiber which begins the deterioration process. Note that some detergents have bleach additives.

2). If possible, fully dry the towels after the first few  washings. The loose lint will be caught in the lint trap. Be sure to clean the lint trap before and after each drying cycle.

3). Avoid washing old, deteriorating towels with new towels. The lint from older towels will transfer on to the new towels.

4). Make sure the water in your machine is free of lint if you are using the same water over and over again.

5). Try using damp towels when wiping off cars. The dampness will keep the lint from coming off the towel.

6). Consider using Surgical towels for interior windows and exterior windows.  Be sure to wash these separately from your terry (exterior body) towels, and use them only for windows.

7). If you are in an area where water is "hard", consider a water softener or other water conditioning additives. High levels of acid and other minerals may contribute to the deterioration of towels.

Always wash new towels before using. NEVER USE BLEACH! NEVER USE FABRIC SOFTENERS! Consider using distilled vinegar (1 cup per wash), this helps to break loose any wax in the towels.

Remember to keep window towels separate from all others, especially in the wash.
