WATER SPOT "ETCHING"
INFERIOR REFINISH MATERIAL

While this concern is not common, it does present its self on occasion. Vehicle was repainted using an inferior grade of refinish material.  The shop attempted to "cure" the paint by increasing the temperature in the paint booth.

NOTE:  Refinish material cures by air, not high heat vs. OEM paint materials which require high heat in order to obtain cure).  This heating "skinned over" the top surface trapping solvents in the paint.  The vehicle was then subjected to rain water 48 hours after painting.  The water absorbed into the paint and "collapsed" the top surface creating depressions or craters (etching) of the paint on all horizontal surfaces.  Attempting to correct this concern by color sanding and buffing will expose the "uncured" portion of the paint.  It is extremely soft, and will not attain hardness for several months if ever.  Attempting to correct by these procedures before it is cured will result in an unacceptable finish and will "die-back", i.e. experience "lose gloss" in a short period of time.
