Summer time is the time of the year when businesses do maintenance on asphalt parking lots. Dependent on the mixtures viscosity, temperature, wind direction, vehicles in the area of a project may experience contamination by asphalt sealers.
Asphalt, a by-product of crude oil, requires a binder in order to seal and withstand the "dripping" of petroleum based products. Examples of petroleum based products are: motor oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
The most common asphalt binder is furan polymer. It is a plastic derived from various alcohols or furfural and ketone. Furans physical properties make it resistant to solvents, most non-oxidizing acids and alkalis.
The attached removal procedure removes the contaminates without heavy rubbing which could cause asphalt particles to scratch the paint film.
Procedure For Removal:
A. Vehicle must be cool - paint surface no higher than 85°F.
B. Apply Road and Tar Remover solvent (B7A-19520-AA) to all painted
surfaces and glass.
C. Pressure wash off Road and Tar.
D. Apply Acid Neutralizer "F8AZ-19520-JA" mixed 8 to 1 spray on - Do not mitt.
DO NOT ALLOW TO DRY.
E. Rinse vehicle, remove excess water.
F. Apply Alkaline Neutralizer "F8AZ-19520-DA" with soft applicator. Allow to
dwell 5 to 7 minutes - DO NOT ALLOW TO DRY.
G. Rinse off with pressure washer.
H. Apply Detail Wash "F8AZ-19520-EA" mixed 128 to 1. Mitt entire vehicle.
Rinse
I.
Dry with soft towel
J. I nspect vehicle for scratches.
K. Remove scratches with proper tool, pad and product if required.
L. D.A. vehicle with paint seal. Allow to dry 15 to 20 minutes.
M. Apply Rubber protector to all tires, clean glass while paint sealant is curing.
N. Remove paint sealant with orbital buffer.
O. Detail all areas of vehicle.
P. Inspect for quality control.
NOTES
* Goal - Remove contaminates from new enamel/urethane painted vehicles without
damaging paint film or paint resin system.
* The "Ford Road and Tar Remover" (B7A-19520-AA), dissolves the asphalt. The high
pressure water spray blows away the small rock or sediment particles from the
vehicles surface.
* The application of the "Ford Rail Dust Removal System" (F8AZ-19520-JA,DA,EA)
dissolves the furan polymer as well as any ferrous metals, which are normally present
in
the sealers.
* The vehicles must be resealed or waxed as the process strips all coatings from the
vehicle, making it susceptible to I.F.O. and Acid Rain damage.
NOTE: Some vehicles may experience staining of flexible parts. Procedures may not correct this and the part may require refinishing.
